Naugatuck Railroad in Connecticut has the following position open: Job Description- Locomotive/Car repair mechanic and Maintenance of Way Supervisor Builds, rebuilds, repairs and inspects railway cars and locomotives according to AAR, FRA, and company regulations. Candidate also serves as maintenance of way supervisor. Responsibilities: o Ensure compliance with all Railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) o Inspects car and locomotive components for compliance with AAR, FRA, and company standards o Performs maintenance activity, both scheduled and on demand, including air brake tests o Repairs, removes or replaces defective components such as wheels, safety appliances, truck and brake equipment, couplers, yokes, draft gears, air brake valves; welds broken parts or secures new parts o Prepares numerous written reports and forms including bad order forms, car repair billing forms, and dimensional loading forms o Performs re-railing or repair activities and emergency repairs anywhere on the system. o Repairs, removes, or replaces components with the use of jacks, blocks, cutting and heating torch, and other hand tools o Restores track after derailments; manages the right of way and structures for trains o Corrects deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge using appropriate tools o Installs and repairs street crossings and railroad crossings; establishes and maintains drainage; installs, repairs, and cleans small culverts; removes snow when needed o Operates fork lifts, light cranes, and car moving equipment o Works outside in all weather conditions, in confined spaces, and at elevated heights o Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned Required Skills o Should be familiar with freight car and locomotive repairs, welding, and FRA and AAR rules and regulations o Should be familiar with FRA maintenance of way rules and regulations o Possess working knowledge of the proper use of various wear limit gauges and testing equipment. o Must possess the ability to complete written forms and reports as well as necessary Federal Railroad Administration reports pertaining to locomotive and car repair responsibilities. o Must possess the ability to learn how to repair and maintain locomotive electrical systems. o Must have the ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Required Experience Required Credentials: o High School Diploma or GED o Two (2) years of related work experience, preferably with GE, EMD, and/or ALCO locomotives o Must have valid driver’s license o Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds, experience with heavy hand tools; previous work experience outdoors o Must be eligible to qualify for and maintain an FRA locomotive engineer and conductor certificate o Strong demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of people, but also work efficiently independently. o Demonstrated experience in operating heavy equipment Preferred Credentials: o CDL operator’s license o FRA certified locomotive engineer and/or conductor o Computer literate using web applications and the Microsoft Office suite The Naugatuck Railroad Company, Inc, does not discriminate in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, membership in an employee organization, retaliation, parental status, military service, or any other protected status under federal, state or local laws. We have bridges. No need to walk on water. 96% of this is a description of standard job duties for most any shortline, and many heritage railways. Howard P. |

Hopefully for a living wage and good benefits. Most short lines want you to walk on water for next to nothing. |

I walked across one of those bridges... to put out a fire that kids started on it. Hahahah! 96% of legitimately qualified applicants would not pass a preemployment drug and alcohol screen.
