Hello Friends, I hoping you might be able to help me. I'm helping a group that is working on restoring the old DL&W Freight Station in Berwick, PA. They are looking for old photos, blue prints, track diagrams, basically anything they would be able to use for a reference. Currently they are in the planning stages of the project. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

2010 photo: http://www.west2k.com/papix/berwick.jpg Looks structurally similar to the Northumberland DL&W freight house built 1911 (Berwick was 1903), now HQs the the North Shore RR and affiliates. Might want to start with some queries with them. ![]() |

Contact Pat McKnight at Steamtown NHS- you'd be amazed what's in the archives there. Joshua |

You might find something on USGS topo maps. This link takes you to Bewick on their historic map site. Follow the directions on the right. Note that maps often have several updates over 20 or more years to the basic map. Depending on the location, maps date from current back to about 1890 and the ones with a smaller reduction may show rail locations and dots for buildings. https://ngmdb.usgs.gov/topoview/viewer/ ... 0/-76.2205 Also search for Sanborn fire maps. They are often available on line through state or local libraries to patrons from the state or area. They usually only cover urban areas, so a rural area or rail yard may not be shown. A freight shed in a business district probably would show. The dates range from about 1890 to 1930. The Library of Congress also has Sanborn maps. Their's are better because they are color reproductions and the colors have a meaning. The collection that the states have are typically B&W reproductions. Here's an LOC address, but it looks like their collection only has pre-1900 maps. https://www.loc.gov/collections/sanborn ... bia+county |

The Erie Lackawanna Railroad Historical Society sells a CD of the Val Maps for NJ and PA on one CD and NY on a second CD. Google their website and go to their Store. Fred Heilich |

Colored Sanborn maps for PA are available online via the Penn State library. The new system allows easy scaling and maneuvering. Info for Berwick ranges from 1884 to 1927 A link for 1927 data is provided below: https://digital.libraries.psu.edu/digit ... 5970/rec/6 Berwick 1927 Sheet 3 shows the DL&W passenger station and baggage room as two separate buildings along a common platform along a double track mainline. A small American Railway Express building is located separately just north of the station. Inaddition, historical aerial photos are also readily available online for PA via the PennPilot collection at Penn State. Again, a link is provided. http://www.pennpilot.psu.edu/ Good hunting!
