Hi, Last night, Central Illinois was the target for some severe weather. Tornadoes did lot of damage south of Decatur in Beardstown, Taylorville, and Litchfield. I went to Taylorville today to bring some food and water to a rescue shelter and to see if the railroad things in town were okay. Frisco 1352 and the Wabash depot are unharmed, as is the Owenaco depot at the local museum. However, the C&IM shops and roundhouse were completely leveled. The roundhouse was the last surviving one from the C&IM, and had quite a history including surviving a major fire in the early 1900’s. Photos have surfaced on Facebook of the destruction at the C&IM shops, but my computer won’t let me upload them here for some reason. Perhaps somebody could post them below. This got me thinking about the Illini Terminal 1604 in Litchfield and any other railroad-oriented things in the path of yesterday’s twisters. Does anyone know of anything else affected? Thomas |
