This popped up on Instagram. The poster didn’t want to give away its exact location but it kind of looks like a Atlantic City, Nj car. It has some black paint and what looks to be the Atlantic City logo. Does anyone know anything about this car? It looks like it was “saved” a long time ago.

Looks to be the remains of Atlantic City 250. An explanation of all this can be found here:

One paragraph at the link above caught my eye:

Quote:
"It was built during WWI for shipyard service on the Southwestern, which I believe was in Philadelphia, and a few years later was sold to the Ocean Electric Railway. So far as I know, this makes it the only extant car from the long-gone network of streetcar lines that once existed on Long Island east of the New York city limits."

This is amazing. I had no idea that any equipment from the Ocean Electric Rwy. was still extant. The line was one of several traction subsidiaries of the LIRR and served the Rockaway peninsula in Queens, NY. Ocean Electric cars were equipped with third-rail shoes as well as trolley poles and used LIRR tracks for part of their route.

Here is a postcard view of a very similar Ocean Electric car at the LIRR station at Far Rockaway circa 1920:
