Greetings. Does anyone possess and is willing to share lettering diagrams for the numberboards on a Budd RDC? Photographic evidence makes it appear as if it was standard across the various roads who purchased them. Thank you! |

Have you checked with the Railroad Museum of PA or the model manufacturer Rapido yet? Joshua |

What are you looking for? If specific railroad, and you know the Plan/lot numbers, contact the IRM Pullman Library. They received a good portion of the Budd Engineering drawings from Bombardier, and may have made a dent in cataloging them ( massive task). |

Brent, The lettering (number) styles may be railroad specific in some cases. I noticed at least two different gothic styles looking at just a few photos. Could have been due to renumbering. I know nil about RDCs but as a graphic artist, I have a keen eye for lettering styles. Photographic evidence is your best friend. |

I know all of these drawings still exist. In 1988 I needed the lettering diagrams for the NYS&W's RDCs. At the time Bombardier still had an office/warehouse in Bensalem, PA. After making a phone call, I was invited down where they literally opened up a drawing file cabinet, pulled out the original drawings and copied them for me! In 2012 I was able to get drawings for a Budd diner from Bombardier, this time from their engineering office in Montreal. From what I understand Bombardier donated drawings to IRM that they believe represents equipment that is gone or obsolete. If they thought there was a chance someone would possibly want to order replacement parts then they held on to the drawings. I'm not sure where RDCs fall in this discussion so I would check with IRM first. Be forewarded that dealing with Bombardier these days is difficult - it took nearly a year to get the dining car drawings. |
