I know I am not the only one to feel this way, but I have to say how much I appreciate and enjoy when you, and others, post these updates with detailed pictures. I am in a "dead zone" for locomotive restoration and never get to see this. The closest I come is the work that I do on my 2.5" scale 2-4-0. Which, by the way, some of the photos and info on this forum have helped along. Seeing parts set up during machining and assembly tells so much more of a story than just the finnished product. (It also raises many intriguing questions) It is nice to see how new parts are made and fit. Thanks E |

Mr. Anderson, Could you please explain the use of fiberglass on the weld of 89's #3 axle? I don't think I've ever seen that used before. Great post, as always! |

I'm interested in the whole procedure of welding in hub liners. I have built up hubs with wire welding using aluminum or silicon bronze wires before - a time and material consuming method. If the wheel centers are cast iron, and the liners are steel, presumably securing them with weld could be an interesting proposition using either Nirod or Eutectic...…. what works best for you guys? |

Its a credit to him persevering in being heard and to Debbie Conway for hearing what he had to say. Once formed, is the firebox going back to STEA as individual sheets or is Strasburg welding it up? Having STEA layout and drill the staybolt holes is a good way to avoid the misalignment issues (between the inner and outer sheets) with the second firebox that we discussed in the 3713 thread a few years back. Have they done the Form 4 on their staybolt layout or is Strasburg responsible for that? Has anything been done with the box car and flat car that you posted about back in May? Are the hub liners on 89 steel or cast iron? |

The saddle tanker is former Sugar Pine Lumber #37 that was formerly at W&W. |
