Go ahead and bump this to Railfanning if you must:

I have someone looking desperately for information on the railroad on which the GEICO commercial featuring a "free-range chicken," set to Roy Orbison's "Ride Away," was filmed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z38evlC-EiY

I long ago assumed that it was filmed on the Filmore & Western RR in California, which seems to have replaced the Sierra RR as the default "Hollywood/TV railroad". But now that I look at the Fillmore & Western's own list of past productions, it includes not that commercial, but a different GEICO commercial:

http://www.fwry.com/filmproduction/uplo ... 3_16_a.pdf

We don't see much, and I have someone that wants more information on the location/type of the truss span seen, and the specific vintage boxcar seen with the chicken riding. (Sounds like they're planning a model railroad diorama--and it's been done before: https://cwerailroad.blogspot.com/2015/0 ... n-car.html )

On the off chance that someone on here recognizes the RR depicted, any help?

Here is the agency that made the ad, you might try asking them:

Geico is (or was) owned by Berkshire Hathaway, which also owns BNSF, but I can't see them arranging filming.

It is definitely the Fillmore and Western.

The bridge, the old (ex-Arizona & California) GP35 #3502. and older style boxcar are the giveaways.

May I ask where the bridge is, and if anyone can ID the boxcar type/origin?

UPDATE: It took me a while, but I found the bridge:

Photo #5 confirms it with the same mountain in the background.

Now, the boxcar: I found photos of the anonymous gray/silver car; can anyone ID its heritage?

The union agreement between the studios and the crafts is said to have a provision that if a location shoot is within a specific mile radius of .. say Hollywood & Vine .. it can be a "report to site." This meaning the worker travels on his/her own cost to the location; if the location is beyond the radius the workers get transportation from the studio to location shoot site. The Filmore & Western is within this radius.

This is why Filmore & Western gets used for movie shoots while further away locations do not.

Redundant post.

The first boxcar is the one in the commercial.

See my updated post above for more on the bridge. (Dang, a Parker truss...... a bit more difficult to model or whatever.....)
