GE13031 and I have wondered about this and Brian Allen (Operations director of the Cuyahoga Scenic) and I had the same converstaion today. How many museums, both operating and static or in some way rail related, have members posting on this board? This conversation comes up due to my boards unwillingness to come to this board and learn what everyone else out there is doing. They feal that they know all there is to know about everything and don't want to listen to others that have done more and better things than us. I know there are alot of top shelve groups posting on here and was just interested in an actual number and listing. I think this is the best site for people in our our line of work(love)and has more to offer yet! I'm chief mechanical officer of the Lake Shore Railway Assocation (owners and operater of the Lorain & West Virginia Railway) and manger of shop and field operations for Industrial Railway Switching and Services. irss@eriecoast.com |

I read this board almost every day. I only post when I have something to say that's pertinent to a current thread. I also forward things I see here to people who might find them of interest. Not rail, but steam preservation. I'm an active member, and assistant webmistress(don't ask) of: NW Pa Steam Engine & Old Equipment Assn (Portersville, Pa, and also a member of Pioneer Steam & Gas (Saegertown, Pa), National Threshers Assn (Wauseon, Oh), and New York Steam Engine Assn (Canadaigua NY)...I also sell ride on gauge trains. Does this disqualify my opinions? |

Reporting for roll call as completely unofficial representative on behalf of the Baltimore Streetcar Museum, the Maryland Rail Heritage Library (joint BSM/Baltimore NRHS project), and the Central Pa. Chapter NRHS with its museum at White Deer, Pa. I can add that I have personal knowledge of this board being seen or otherwised accessed by personnel and/or not-necessarily-authorized representatives from the following operations: Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania Tennessee Valley RR Museum North Carolina Transportation Museum B&O Railroad Museum West Virginia Central/Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Strasburg RR Harrisburg Chapter NRHS Steamtown NHS I am told that several organizations either refuse to post to this board, or their volunteers/staff are either barred from posting or strongly discouraged from contributing information that is not officially released by the appropriate personnel. lner4472@bcpl.net |

On behalf of Hume and Bob and Keith, thanks for the kind words about RyPN, Jack. Institutions represented by staff members or officers who post fairly regularly on the Interchange, and who publically acknowledge their institutional affiliation, include: IRM OERM TVRM RRM of PA Savannah Roundhouse NCTM MOT McKinney Ave Transit Authority Valley RR Strasburg RR Cumbres and Toltec/Friends/RGRPC Ft. Collins Municipal Railway and others I'm sure I'm forgetting at the moment. Note that when these folks post they are nearly always speaking for themselves as individuals, not as official spokespeople of their institutions. Representatives of many other institutions have told me they read RyPN (editorial copy as well as the Interchange) regularly but rarely if ever choose to post on the Interchange. It is safe to say that the readership is much broader than one might guess from the "poster-ship" as it were. This is one of the reasons we have become increasingly strict about stamping out flame wars and enforcing the terms of service on this board. The quality and bredth of the readership here is in direct proportion to the quality and usefulness of the discussion we maintain. This board has become a very servicable resource for our community; we'd like to keep it that way. eledbetter@rypn.org |

Like others, I read this board daily. It is one of the many ways that I keep up with what is going on in our industry. Thanks to everyone who makes this board what it is. William W. Hey Guys, I guess that I am most affiliated with the North Carolina Transportation Museum, as somewhat of a member of an advisory board to start a teenage volunteer group there. I try to help out there whenever I can find some free time and just do whatever needs to be done. Not much to it I guess. I've been a steam enthusiast for years, and love pretty much anything steam powered. I had the opportunity to go to Railcamp 2002 at Steamtown this year, and that has furthured my interest in the subject as well. Hayes S. crzhaze@rrmail.com |

I read RYPN at least twice daily when at home. I am a retired Electrical Engineer with a life long interest in railroading and railroad history. I am a member of the all volunteer Sumpter Valley Railroad Restoration Inc. (SVRR). (Also known as SVRy). I know several SVRR Board members who also read and post on this board. Our OPS Mgr., CMO, and other department heads also peruse and post on RYPN. We all learn much here. I appreciate finding how other organizations are doing it. dan Dan Denham, President & Engineer, SVRR svry@attbi.com |
