Someone e-mailed me a lousy picture they took of a "railroad car restaurant" in Yuma, Arizona.

Based on what I could see in the phot and online, it's, well, of interest, though probably with major structural damage:

It apparently was the Happy Chef, then the Copper Miner Kitchen, closing in late 2016, apparently over disputes between tenant and landlord over structural problems/maintenance.

Not that I have any delusions of rescuing this body for someone else to use, but anyone know the heritage, etc.?

Looks like UP, an AC&F-built car.

I will have my nephew check out the status of this car, if it is still in Yuma.

It's still there at the corner of S. Gila St. and E 1st St., just a few blocks from Pivot Point Plaza where the SP C-9 2521.

15-20 years ago there was an ex-UP lightweight car that was used in several different locations in and around Salt Lake City, UT for a couple of different restaurants. It finally ended up near a scrapyard in Ogden. I wonder if it made its way south to Arizona.

That's the dining room half of an ex-UP twin unit diner built by ACF in 1953. There were two sets of those built for the City of Denver. This car was part of the Railroader Restaurant chain in Riverside, CA until the mid-1980's when that restaurant closed and the car was moved to Yuma. I don't have the exact UP number handy.

According to the 1980 Private Passenger Car Annual, it was UP 5111, ex 5105, built by ACF 12/1953.
