It’s official. Our 4-4-0 Leviathan locomotive will be re-named and numbered to interpret the original locomotive that pulled Lincoln’s funeral train from Harrisburg to Philadelphia, stopping in Elizabethtown on April 22, 1865. New livery will be Pennsylvania Railroad, No.331. The story of our replica locomotive will always include its original interpretation of a Central Pacific locomotive built in 1868 for the Transcontinental Railroad project.

Great news. Will be very interesting to see how this property develops. Looking forward to getting photographs of the Leviathan with the Funeral Car one day. |

Interesting project! I assume that the other rolling stock (except for the "United States" replica) would also be lettered for the Pennsylvania Railroad? Also, are there any plans to alter look of the locomotive (stack, pilot, headlamp, etc) to more closely match the historic photos of the 331? |

Kevin, me thinks the lettering and number change is about it. Maybe down the road the owner might want to. Its a major project just getting the railroad built and in operation. No decisions have been made about what goes up on the letter boards of the coaches. The official name of our railroad is the Harrisburg, Lincoln & Lancaster. Which is a nod to the original name of the railroad that this lone was built as: Harrisburg, Portsmouth, Mt. Joy & Lancaster R.R. |

It's a major project just getting the railroad built and in operation. That's quite understandable, there's no rush for that just yet. At the same time, those additional changes look pretty minimal. The stack, bell bracket, pilot, and maybe the cover for the steam dome would be about it--and the result would look VERY close. Photo source: https://locomotive.fandom.com/wiki/Leviathan ![]() |

And, of course, new paint... I believe Kurt Bell from the PA State Archives has already supplied PRR paint data of the period. Either way, if further cosmetic changes are in the works for this beauty, I would definitely be interested in lending a hand. |

While looking for other photos of PRR 331, I came across this item from 2015. There are a couple of other photos of the 331 here that may be of interest. https://www.wvncrails.org/lincoln-funer ... ative.html |

Just some material to add to the record, courtesy of the Facebook page "Pre-1895 Railroads and Steam Engines:" Baldwin built PRR 332, sister to No. 331, which was one of the locomotives assigned to Lincoln's funeral train. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =3&theater ![]() And a color illustration by John Ott, featuring a slightly earlier locomotive and illustrating, as near as can be determined, the correct colors for a locomotive on this road in this era. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =3&theater

Actually, since the #331 was delivered in March, 1865, it would have still had its Baldwin paint instead of PRR repaint colors. Thanks to guys like Randy Hees, we're lucky enough to have the Baldwin paint notebooks from that time. I'll just leave this here::.
