I am doing research on derricks that worked their way through Erwin, Tn.

The Clinchfield wrecker purchased mid 1940's CRR 1402 was involved in a runaway incident at Nora, Va circa 1991. It was sent to Waycross for repairs but CSX opted not to repair and eventually it was sold to a short line in Idaho and scrapped circa 2008.

SBD 771200 200 Ton Orton replaced the Clinchfield wrecker. Info I have found looks like it was purchased in 1971 and stationed at Jacksonville before making a brief stint at Erwin in 1992.

SBD 771200 would be replaced with a derrick from Corbin SBD 771256. I believe this was a former SAL wrecker that was from Wildwood. SBD 771256 would end up on the TN Southern and is now still in service at an engine shop in Indiana. So, a couple of questions:

Does anyone know the final disposition of SBD 771200?

Does anyone have any other information on either SBD 771200 or SBD 771256?

Thanks..............Scott J

Maybe I posted the wrong number at Erwin. What do you show for a SBD 991200?

Is this the same as the SBD 771200?

Also I was showing SBD 771256 a 250 Ton Industrial Brownhoist?

Thanks.......Scott

Here are my notes on SBD Wreckers for June 30, 1983. My notes are what I have found/interpreted from information I have found on the internet. I did not take much interest
in the Erwin derrick when I was in that area, other than I was out there with them.

I speculated 77 series were ex Seaboard, 76 ex-ACL, 75 CRR, and 74 L&N. I have a list of L&N wreckers from 1967 and figured since they were 40000 number series that anything that SBD numbered 74 was ex-L&N.

I seem to have two 200 ton Ortons as Seaboard #771200, one built in 1966 and one in 1971. Anybody able to clear this up?

Sorry about not being more specific. Lorain and West Virginia Railway, owned by the Lake Shore Railway Association. Located in Wellington Ohio. Even though what in the hell is it, is an appropriate question and another topic all together.
