The UP Steam Team has brought No. 4014 back to life. Videos are online of it moving about the shop area. Congratulations to Ed Dickens and his amazing crew!

I'm jumping on a plane tomorrow and plan on being there to see it in person.

While I'm not sure if chase and rail fanning discussion are merited on the Interchange, I too will be hopping a plane west tomorrow night and following the Big Boy on its maiden run along with a few other friends who are active in preservation. Will also be attending the Golden Spike 150th anniversary which is sadly being overlooked by the Big Boy jorumey in my opinion.

Hope other RYPN members will be in the area, would be nice to meet in person!

I was sure that 4014 would make it on time. But I have less faith in there being enough porta-potties on hand for all the crusty old steam foamers.
I'll tune in online thanks.

The ultimate traffic jam. Moonbats, away!

Something we'd all like to see at trackside. I hope U.P. uses her on a freight drag someday!

Well.... I told ya so....

Yea, it's going to be a zoo. Anybody who makes it out there, all you have to do is look for somebody wearing a hat that has a patch on it that looks like a green Porter spot plate with a white number six on it. That will either be me, or else one of my co-conspirators. We'd love to meet any of you RyPNers, PLEASE collar us and introduce yourself.

And WELCOME to our part of the world !!!!

My railfan wife and I will be there too. The Railway and Locomotive Historical Society is holding its convention in Ogden, using the Hilton Garden Inn as our hq. Our Southern California chapter is the group that gave 4014 a home until trading it back to the UP. And our Golden Spike chapter is in Ogden, so lots of our members will be there. They are restoring D&RGW narrow gauge 2-8-0 #223 in a outbuilding at the union station, so please stop by to say hello. It will be ooen on the 10th and 11th. And as the membership person for the R&LHS we can help you become a member too.

Also worth noting is that the Southern Pacific Historical & Technical Society and the Union Pacific Historical Society are holding a joint conference/convention at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center in downtown Ogden and using nearby hotels.

Well it wasn’t exactly on schedule (since they had to cancel the already publicized 844 trip) but glad to see the videos of the big boy alive and well! Hope to see them down the road when it’s closer or I can get a ticket for under $3k.

Wonderful video put together by UP. Showed Lance Fritz, UP CEO and Chairman, who seemed pretty stoked about 4014 and a Senior VP who mentioned that 4014 will be around for years to come. I know that we are all aware of the volatile nature of the corporate world, but I believe that 4014 and UP steam will be around for many years to come, and his words reaffirm that.

Thanks for posting that great, positive message from Union Pacific! Really, nothing speaks better about the huge value of U.P. other than operating that greatest of all steam locomotives. I fear I may have missed the best part of the event by not going out for her unveiling, but it's a comfort to know she'' be around for years to come, along with her "little" sisters! Thanks U.P!
