Post subject:  New Museum in Old Roundhouse in Chile

An old roundhouse in Temuco, Chile has been renovated into museum and cultural facility. They built a translucent PVC dome over the turntable to enclose the roundhouse, which had apparently been heavily damaged in a number of earthquakes. The result is less-authentic, but interesting. The site appears to contain a few ruins from the steam era including a coaling tower.

Looks beautiful to me. All that equipment is protected, and there appears to be lots of room for future additions.

Maybe 40 years ago, Rail Classics had an article about steam in Chile, featuring pictures of this place before it was prettied up for tourists....
