Hi everyone, I just wanted to point out if anyone ever decides to rescue the only Alco Pa-B unit? Very similar trucks ride under these Australian Alco diesel locomotives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLWFSGe7wIo Not sure how many are aware of the Alco's down under? So, I thought I would point out a possible source for trucks. Some of those Aussie Alco units were sold for scrap recently. Robert |

I think those are broad gauge, and shorter wheelbase than PA trucks. CD |

RR is New South Wales, which is Standard Gauge (1435 mm; 56.5 in) As to truck wheelbase, you'd need a diagram of the locomotive. Phil Mulligan |

Those are C trucks, six motors, while the PA trucks are A-1-A, the center axle being an ilder. The C trucks are shorter, and these look like they have a leaf spring that the US Trimount trucks apparently do not have, at least from my looking at several photos. |

I know the shell in Brazil is wide gauge. Does anyone know if that unit still exists? |

Might not be exact trucks. But neither are the FM trucks currently under the two A units. The Aussie trucks are close enough stand in trucks. C-C could be made A-1-A without much difficulty. Robert |

There was a third set of FM trucks obtained with the two sets under the PAs undergoing restoration that was in storage in Oregon that was scrapped for storage fees since no one took an interest in them. |

Wow, I had no idea they were so bad. Makes sense that they were scrapped then. I wonder if any of the FM C-liner B-unit welded rail cars they came from still exist with trucks. I can't remember how many there were originally. There's pictures of them out there too. |

The welded-rail train had, if I remember correctly, Erie-builts, a far rarer and more 'worthy of preservation' thing than C-liners. My understanding -- which I hope is incorrect -- was that all the carbodies have been scrapped. |

Here is an interesting webpage describing the Canadian Pacific CWR plant which incorporated four ex-PRR Erie-built B-unit carbodies and trucks, the trucks from two of which are now preserved under the PAs undergoing restoration in the USA. It's sad that one of the B-units lasted intact until 2010 and was not preserved-- it would have made a good stand-in for a PB. https://churcher.crcml.org/circle/Smith ... Plant.html |
