Post subject:  Westinghouse "trombone" 3-chime air whistle. wanted
After some nice gentleman identified what the whistle was, I have been trying to find one.
I e-mailed the Western Museum and the Orange Empire museum, but no luck.
I found some on a wierd auction site, but all they wanted was for me to subscribe.

You could try IRM also. The Westinghouse 12" trombone whistle was standard on the Chicago "L" steel cars; IRM should have more than a few spares.

They aren't that hard to make. We were making them at McKinney Avenue Transit Authority with a slightly different diameter brass tubing.

They do show up on eBay from time to time if you have patience. I think I have two original WH chimes spare but not sure what a fair price is and not sure that I want to sell at this time.

Might I suggest that you take some good high-resolution pictures, with visible scale reference for dimensions or size, and perhaps even make a few measured drawings, of what you have?

That would then serve as a near-perfect reference for anyone to re-create the whistle without involving market pricing or auction excitement or 'leaving money on the table' concerns. If posted here (perhaps via the mods as a 'sticky' they would be precisely the kind of permanent reference that the old Articles section was meant to give us.

By, "no luck" what do you mean? No response or "no, sorry none to sell"?

In a number of museums, the person reading the emails is not necessarily the storekeeper or the mechanical or restoration chief. Inquiries of some depth have to be forwarded to an appropriate person and may not be answered overnight. Or the person reading and responding to emails has been given some general responses to certain kinds of requests.
