B&O caboose C1411 (long lettered as C1114 to match the street address of 1114 Highland Drive) has been a landmark in the upscale Columbus suburb of Upper Arlington, OH since the 1960s. I noted about a week ago it had disappeared from its long time home in a backyard near Kenny Road and Highland Drive.
After some detective work I found that the city of Worthington (another Columbus suburb) had purchased the caboose to place in the McCord Park. Further, with it Worthington plans to install a railroad observation deck in McCord Park, the first one I am aware of in central Ohio. The park is alongside the PRR/N&W/NS line from Columbus to Sandusky and the NYC/CR/CSX line from Columbus to Cleveland.
I happened to be in Worthington yesterday and grabbed some photos of the caboose in McCord Park on a section of panel track in a parking lot near the tracks. I do not know if this is a permanent location or not. Although the caboose seems to be in a decent state of affairs, the siding is starting to crack and bulge in some areas and it needs a good coat of paint.
