 Post subject: Ebay Wooden Passenger Car

Greetings,

I see that car mentioned previously, may be a Illinois Central car (according the the seller). Could somebody give me an approximate weight for this car? Do these have concrete floors?

I don't know what a wood passenger car weighs, but I know all of the wood cars that I have worked with have wood floors not concrete.

Wooden coaches with trucks and steel underframes weigh about 80,000lbs. Trucks alone can weigh as much as 30,000lbs per pair. Estimate 50,000lbs for the coach alone unless the underframe is wood or absent. If so, I don't know.

Although not specifically related to this post, I thought I'd pass on some information for those interested:
Glenn Guerra put together an article about wooden passenger car construction/rebuilding while he was working at Mid-Continent that has some real good information and construction photos. The article's information may be of use for some of you who are in the process of, or planning on, restoring wooden cars.
