We do give a Diesel award, but this year were unable to identify a good candidate. Got one lined up for next year, though. Aaron Isaacs, Awards Committee chair HeritageRail Alliance |

Sam Bailey has done amazing work on this locomotive since it was donated 2 years ago, and she is looking simply amazing! He has done all of this work himself (as far as I know) with not a lot of financial backing. |

I figured SP 9010 in Niles Canyon would be a shoe-in. |

9010 is a terrific project, but it isn't complete yet, which is why we couldn't recognize it this year. They're still working on its engine. Aaron Isaacs, Awards Committee chair HeritageRail Alliance |

Hi Aaron, To me it seems like the diesel preservation activities at IRM the last few years have been note worthy. I am sure there is a very small group of really hardworking volunteers behind this activity that deserve recognition. What comes to mind is the re-engining of Santa Fe FP45 #92 and restoring it to operation. The restoration of Rock Island GP7 4506. And the acquisition of CB&Q U-28B #114. |

Another diesel restoration of note is that FP45 at Orange Empire. |

In fact we gave an award to the Orange Empire FP45 a year or two ago. We don't award acquisitions of rolling stock, only restorations. Aaron Isaacs, Awards Committee HeritageRail Alliance |
