Was part of a museum tour through the old SP shops at Sacramento in 1990.
Just before RailFair 91.

Saw this old wooden passenger car.
Did a search on the museum page, but could not find it.

A nudge in the right direction...to find out more about it ...would be appreciated.
Is it still around..?

Thanks.

I believe this is the same car: http://www.bbcrc.org/shasta.shtml

Yes, I think it was the Shasta, that's where I remember it being. Used to be (1950s) kept in the Dunsmuir, between the station and the back shops, just north of the Roundhouse & Boiler house (all gone now, of course). Now at Black Butte.

Really neat car. Glad it got indoors. I see what the restoration shop at MC does with wooden cars and this one looks very salvageable. But like a steam locomotive you'll find more when you get into it deeper. What a classic car.
Thanks for sharing the interest and link. Regards, John.

William Diehl and David Dewey,
Good info.

Went on that link. Here's what I found.
It's couple of years out of date, but looks like major progress has been made.
More funding required, but that's normal.

Anyone have more recent information.?

That wooden side truss is a very interesting piece of engineering.
From what can be seen in the photo, it doesn't appear that bad of condition.

Its a plan 320 car just like mine built in 1887 DT&FW 45, C&S 57/513 , the wood construction is amazing and mine when its finally done will have a section of that behind glass so people can appreciate the workmanship.

Very cool. Will the viewing panel be on the interior or exterior?

Has that car been retrofitted with a steel underframe? The truss rod anchor looks like the big cast lug incorporated into the bolster/platform casting of the Commonwealth steel underframe retrofit kit.
