I'd seen it on Facebook, but at that time the information was pretty sketchy.

I'm still not clear on exactly what happened? Sounds like it was the diesel that ran him over? Was the steamer on the other end? Which loco was in control? I don't know any details of the operation, so I don't know if they run push/pull etc or what?

It was after dark, so it's not too hard to understand why they never saw him.

He was drunk --- hate to think what would have happened if he had been driving a car !!!

(but we wouldn't be 'talking' about it)

I can't speak for which locomotive it was, but it would have been either steam or diesel, not both. The way Steam into History operates is with the locomotive, either the York 17 or ex-CR 7580, on the south end of the train and shoving North, typically to either Glen Rock or Hanover Junction, before returning south with the respective locomotive up front. Both destinations lack a siding to run around the train, and the siding in New Freedom isn't conducive to logical operations given the location of their boarding facilities.

According to their online calendar, the train would have been powered by the diesel.

Trans Magazine's News Wire for Oct 15th says the train was pulled by a diesel.

There "were" plans to install a turntable in New Freedom, if memory serves me correctly, but that's another thread...
