Found this on the Trains magazine website. An excellent primer on travel to China to see steam. You might have to register first. http://www.trains.com/Content/Dynamic/Articles/000/000/003/509qmugq.asp ryarger@rypn.org |

An excellent primer on travel to China to > see steam. You might have to register first. I second the opinion--Mike Allen knows whereof he speaks. The article is actually a reprint from Travel Resources section of John Craft's Steam Central--you can read it there without registering at Trains.com if you prefer. eledbetter@rypn.org |

Bob & Erik, Thanks for the kind words. There is no need to register to get to the article, just click on Bob's link. The original SteamCentral article is two years old. I've sent an update to John, but he's been busy and updating old content takes awhile for him to get around to. In the Trains article I deleted the locations that have gone diesel, but list a few newly discovered industrial lines. Gary Hunter's article in Trains seems to have stirred up quite a bit of interest. If you are contemplating going to China, this will be the last winter for the logging lines, but the Ji Tong Railway will probably keep steam into 2004. They have bought two more diesels for the western end though, so they are now less than 95% steam! a231pacific@aol.com |
