I hope the photo link works. This photo, from ABPR, shows several cars at Orange Empire. The arch-window interurban car is Pacific Electric #1045 (or it might be #1046...) - does anyone know what that streetcar on the right is? Thanks! Sorry for the confusion... the car appears to be an arch-roof double-truck (?) streetcar, body only, without much paint on it and largely yellow/rust in color. It is pictured in summer 2000, stored between PE 1045 or 1046 (the one on cribbing - I'm not sure which) and a carbarn. It appears to be on shop trucks. Thanks for any suggestions! Just follow the photo links to the collection pages. If the car is a utility item it would not be listed. Brian Norden Orange Empire Ry Museum bnorden49@earthlink.net |

> I'm contacting you off-line and if we work > out the identity of the car we can post it. The photo appears to have been taken back in 1986 and shows the ends of two PE (SP design) box cars, one of the two exVE/PE trailers, and then the "mystery" car. This car is a former Salt Lake City car that went to San Diego as #1003 during WWII. We got the car as a body from a "frog farm" when the site was taken for a freeway. The trucks it is setting are Baldwin trucks that were obtained in trade 30+ years ago from SF Muni. The ex-VE/PE trailer is now undercover (has been for years) and is up on a frame from a tank car to allow movement. The trailer was sold in the early 30s and it became a mountain cabin in the San Bernardino Mountains. Next to it was a another PE body -- this one is also now at OERM. That PE car is one of the steel center-door "submarines" that originated on the SP's Oakland lines -- inagine a "Herriman" design streetcar.
