All, What Happens to be the Lightest 4-4-0 , 4-6-2 and 2-8-2 with Tender? I was looking at my photo of ANGELINA COUNTY Lumber Co. No.110 , anyone here happen to have an idea ? Curious . Mr. Starr |

I don't have the specs handy, but Baldwin 2-8-2 number 4 of the Mexican Pacific seemed pretty small for her type to me. She lasted really late in steam at the sugar mill in Los Mochis, Mexico. |

It would be extremely hard, if not impossible, to determine the lightest of the old type steam locomotives such as the 4-4-0's, 2-6-0's, 4-6-0's, etc. Also, I assume you are talking about North American examples only. If you add standard gauge types in Europe for instance, the tighter clearances probably meant lighter examples. As for more modern types, you might be able to figure the lightest example. For instance, I believe that the lightest North American 2-8-4's were the Norfolk Southern engines; the ones that eventually went down to Mexico for further service. As for the 4-8-4's; I think the Toledo, Peoria & Western examples were light, but those built for NdeM and Canadian National, are pretty light too. Good luck in your search! Les |

Little River 110 is the smallest standard gauge 4-6-2 ever built. |
