Post subject:  Now or never for the SD80MACs

According to the Altoonaworks Facebook page, NS has sold all of the SD80MACs. Six went to CP, where they reportedly will be parted out. The rest have been sold to Progress Rail.

While unique to Conrail, this model did operate for many years with both CSX and NS.

I live less than a mile, but out of sight, from the CSX Pope Creek Branch in southern Maryland, where under CR and later CSX, the big MACs were regulars because they had the Amtrak required control systems. It was always a cool experience sitting by the fire pit on a cool spring evening listening and even feeling the power of a string of three of them hauling a 100+ coal drag down the creek to one of the power plants.
