This is passed on from information sent to the Yahoo tugboat group by the owner. He is too busy with the restoration and has not been able to put out much on what he is doing. The photo is by the owner and is posted with his permission. Also the link below is a story from 2001 about the tug and how it was ready to be sunk and in need of a savior.

From Yahoo...

Enclosed is a photo I took last week of my tug, New York Central 13 (ex Hay-de). She is undergoing restoration at Tottenville Marina in Staten Island. She was weighed at 120 tons on the scale on the travel lift as she came out. She was built in Camden, NJ by John Dialogue and Sons in 1887 and her hull is wrought iron. She made the journey from Pier 63 in Manhattan to Tottenville under her own power, running both her GM 110 diesel engines!

Many iron rivets in her hull are getting "ringed" and/or pad welded and new keel coolers will need be found and installed. I cooled the diesels for the 4 hour run to the yard by running a cooling loop of 2" copper pipe through an internal water tank. She also has a few bad spots along the waterline that will need to be replated with doublers of Corten. She also got a new 4 foot
diameter brass steering wheel.

I'll post some more pictures as the restoration of the hull continues over the next 3 months.

Kind regards,

Capt. Eric Fischer
New York Central 13

This is the same tug that was on Ebay a year or to ago, but the owner stopped the auction because he decided that she was worth more for parts than as a complete vessel. It's good to see a happy ending to that story.
