What a shame. I visited this place last spring. It was a really nice museum ran by a great group of people--just about as good as it gets for small depot museums. Their exhibits and model railroad layouts were incredible. The entire freight room area of the depot was taken up by an HO scale model of Jackson in the 1940s. I'm extremely saddened to hear this because the layout is most likely not going to be preserved as it was built in a way where it can't be moved easily. It was a true work of art.
I wonder what's going to happen to the rolling stock displayed outside. There are two cabooses and a former FEC diner. There is no room for them at the Casey Jones Museum. From what I remember, all of the equipment was fully intact both inside and outside. I would hate to see the city turn the place into something that requires the cars to be gutted and remodeled. They were really nice.
