Post subject: | Rail trail coming to Morristown,Tenn |
Work could start next spring to convert a long abandoned Southern Railway right of way to a 2.75 mile greenway from Morristown,Tennessee to Cherokee Lake. What I think is significant about this is that half the route was abandoned in 1938,the rest about 12 years ago.The railroad was built in 1891 as the Morristown & Cumberland Gap,later reorganized as the Knoxville & Bristol before take over by Southern in 1903.The line was always called "The Peavine" by locals.
