Does anyone remember the trips on the Pittsburg Shawmut with 2102 in the '70's? Any of the organization around?

Yes I was in high school and volunteered with the group that owned it. Steam Tours Inc. based out of Ohio, Akron area if I recall correctly. Pretty sure it no longer exists.

Correct, Steam Tours of Akron, OH. As far as I know, they vanished decades ago.

There were at least two years of trips, maybe three?

One ran from Kittaning, PA and one ran from Brookville. Between the two trips I was able to cover the entire line, except for the short piece Kitanning and Freeport. One of the runs went all the way to Brockway. I suspect it was the Brookville run, but they may have done it from Kittanning. Would have made for a long day, but then again as I recall, it was. The next year was a shorter run.

So I'm guessing Brookville to Brockway and Kittaning to Brookville were the two series? During one of them, she was still in the D&H elephant ears disguise. By the next year, it was back to the reading look, but the tender was lettered for the "Allegheny Railroad" or some such? (Allegheny being the local river and mountain chain).

My friend Bob Farkas has a couple of from-the-vestibule shots from one of the P&S trips posted on RRPictureArchives.net, showing the date of one of the trips as Oct. 12, '74, which was a Saturday, so it's probably correct. Bob has done a fairly decent job of documenting the '02's operations in the Ohio/W. PA region, from it's arrival in Akron to it's last trips in the area in 1977, including the not-very-well documented trips on the AC&Y in April of 1971, and the very hush-hush Sunday morning test run from S. Akron yard to Hudson, OH and back in August of 1968 on the PRR/PC Hudson Secondary.

My Dad and I saw it run "light" through Olean, NY, Westbound on the EL. It had apparently recently finished running on the D&H, and was lettered D&H 302. It was on its way from Hornell to Salamanca, in order to get turned on the turntable, and head south on the EL Bradford Branch, for storage at Brockway, Pa. It stayed a while (months?) in Brockway, before being used on the P&S excursions, the following year, I believe.

Later we watched it depart Brookville on an excursion. My understanding, at the time, was that the excursion was headed for Kittanning.

A friend and I chased a trip from Kittanning to Brockway on October 21, 1973. 2102 was still in her "D&H 302" disguise on that trip. We left the chase at Allen Summit in early to mid afternoon. I can't imagine what time they returned to Kittanning that evening.

I did a little research and found the following:

1973: October 14 and 21, Kittanning to Brockway and return.

1974: October 6 and 13, Brookville to Kittanning and return. These 1974 trips appear to have run with the engine restored to RDG 2102 appearance. At least, that is how it was advertised in advance. (Have not found photographic proof of this restoration, yet).

Longtime reader, first time poster. I wasn't around yet when these trips were run, but I acquired this brochure several years ago from a friend of a friend and figured it would be of interest. From the October 6th and 13th 1974 trips.

Reading the last page of that flyer - my understanding was that the Firestone tank car used as an A tender wasn't "graciously loaned" to them - and the owner of this tank car wasn't very happy with them for using it. Can anyone confirm this?

Nice compilation from older VHS. Though you might want to turn the sound off so you won’t be annoyed by the dubbed in sounds.

In 3 more years will be the 200th Anniversary of the Delaware & Hudson Canal. Are those elephant ears still available for temporary reapplication?

Thank You to all that replied; I was on 2 of the trips; one where they ran out of fuel and health problems among passengers.

I was on the Kent-Greenville trip of April 30, 1977 when 2102 ran out of coal on the return trip along the Ravenna Arsenal, less than 10 miles from Kent. The crew was scavenging scrap ties from along the RoW to keep the fire going. A trailer train came up behind the excursion and pushed us into Kent. This was like three weeks before 4070 threw an eccentric rod on the first double-header over Horseshoe Curve with 2102 that ended steam on Conrail for over 10 years. To this day, I can't figure out why, when I could look at the tender during the servicing stop at Greenville and realize it was less than half-full, they couldn't figure out they had a problem, and didn't at least scratch the return trip photo runby to save coal?
