This is for my wife's research, about plants. Here is her comment when asked how to explain why this is needed:

"Because botanists took the train out to places and botanized and collected around railroad stations and towns and then took the train back. And a lot of cool plants were found along railroads, they acted as corridors for spread of new plants in areas."

http://www.rrshs.org This site has a good database, for railroad stations in the United States.
ON some of the sites, they do have past and present stations, Pat.

That one for Ohio and PA are very good, too bad we don't have that for all states!
