The Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum announced today that they are closed for the season to public health concerns. They hope to have some special events. https://www.facebook.com/madrivernkpmuseum Any others out there? Joshua |

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic and Virginia & Truckee Carson City are 2 you can add to that list. Cumbres & Toltec is only running half of their line. Durango has yet to open but is rumored to run Rockwood - Cascade only. |

Virginia and Truckee canceled their season and the CSVR in Ohio delayed opening until the fall. Old Pueblo Trolley closed at the beginning of March and will not reopen either of our museums for the foreseeable future as COVID-19 infections are out of control here now that we've reopened. It is entirely possible that our hospitals could run out of capacity and probable that they will stop elective procedures again. Statewide, Arizona reported 1,014 new cases today. Pima County reported 34 new cases and Maricopa County reported 680. Pima (where I am) and Maricopa have the largest population centers. |

It seems the V&T has backed out of its plans for a cancelled season and now is making plans to reopen with hand sanitizer, face masking and social distancing policies. https://www.facebook.com/VirginiaTrucke ... =3&theater I don't know if Nevada is operating on a county by county basis, but the Nevada Northern Railway has been operating for about two weeks now. I was there last weekend, face masking was enforced inside all buildings on property and on the train. An extra passenger car was added to the train to keep up with social distancing a bit, but they probably needed it... that place was busy with people returning to the railroad. While I was trackside and not on the train itself, I watched all the people wearing face masks come and ride the train. Considering how many people felt cooped up from the stay at home orders it seems telling people "wear your facemask and clean your hands, we're open again!" is enough to get the patrons eagerly back to the railroads and on trains again. |

The V&T is definitely running this season, our 45th. This Saturday, June 20 we plan a soft start using consolidation #29 in Virginia City, NV. We will operate the shorter, but very scenic and historical route to Gold Hill. The 29 really works hard going up the hill. We will start running weekends instead of daily and for this season the operating days will remain flexible. We will add more open-aire cars to increase seating distancing and are in the process of building another open-aire car. There are no scheduled trains from Carson City to Virginia City this year. The shops and restaurants and museums along the boardwalk in Virginia City are all starting to open at 50% capacity. Even the wild mustangs are coming out. |

The V&T Railroad is operating out of Virginia City. The V&T Railway, which is a different organization, is not operating its 2020 season out of Carson City. |

We will not be running our 2020 season on the J&L Narrow Gauge. Ohio's rules require everyone to wear masks, and given that operating 58 is a hot job on a hot day, I won't ask our people to subject themselves to trying to wear a mask while operating the locomotive. That is just asking for trouble with heat exhaustion. We also found a few leaking staybolts on 58 and to repair them means taking the locomotive apart, so instead of rushing the work we can do it more slowly and also take care of some other things that didn't get finished during the initial restoration. The year off is also giving us more time to work on extending the mainline. |
