Post subject:  Los Angeles Junction Railway ALCO S-2 original colors?
The Los Angeles Junction Railway received 5 new ALCO S-2 between 1941-1949
numbered #1-#5.

Two of them survive today in Washington State.
#1 operating at Chelatchie Prairie Railroad #1.
#2 at the Washington State Railroads Historical Society as Relco #1040.

I always thought the black paint with white stripes was the original paint scheme.

Now I come across this builder photo on the internet. Looks like the factory paint was
more colorfull.

Did anybody know the colors of this paint scheme

I don’t have any records on LAJ but they may have been black & yellow. I’d have not a clue what shade of yellow. An old color photo I ran across online shows the later striped scheme you you mention may have been blue and yellow due to Santa Fe influence or it could have been black and the image was way off on color balance. I do have some data on ATSF colors on the cross reference.

On your other post on the State Belt, no clue there, either.

From information I learned earlier this month, the Washington State Railroads Historical Society in Pasco (Tri-Cities) WA is no more. The collection is now the responsibility of the Northern Pacific Railway Museum, and what I have heard is that equipment not moved to Toppenish will be disbursed. Contact the NPRM to learn any details.
