Where is NYC X5313? This is ex TH&B 500 steam generator car built from THB 502 nee NYC 5313 a 4-6-4. It was a seldom-used spare piece of equipment to protect passenger service.

Wow, I had no idea an NYC Hudson's tender was saved and exists today. You really can learn something new every day!

Is this the one that made a stop off at the Green Mountain many moons ago and restored there? I believe it was transferred to Steamtown Scranton.

The last few times I was at Steamtown, it was parked facing the mall on one of the yard tracks underneath the inclined walkway/bridge. It is usually out in the open unless the Delaware Lackawanna has freight cars parked on an adjacent track, or if Steamtown has shuffled that block of equipment around.

It arrived at Steamtown NHS in the Summer of 2002. I wrote a little article for RYPN when I was an intern at STEA.

My understanding, which might be more myth or misunderstanding than reality, is that the tender for Western Maryland Scenic 734 is a NYC Hudson tender (much longer than the original LS&I tender) that sat for years under Cleveland Terminal Tower. So there might be more than one still in existence.

My sources say that tender on 734 belonged to an L-1d Mohawk #2662, not a Hudson.

My understanding is that the X5313 was purchased and donated to Steamtown by the late Harold Crouch of Newark, NY. Harold was a Mechanical Engineer with the NYC and successors, starting in 1946. He had encyclopedic knowledge of steam locomotives (particularly NYC), as well as early diesels. You'll never meet a finer person.

Thank you for the clarification. I got the Central part right.

Where was the photo taken? The caption, date and photographer's credit has all been misplaced. Scroll down to the very bottom.

Not sure of the date, but the location of that photo appears to be outside the engine house at the Green Mountain Railroad’s yard in North Walpole, NH.
