Does anyone know what color New York Central's locomotive cranes were painted when new? Trying to determine if yellow or black. Not much help available from NYCRRHS. Thanks for any info you may have!

I agree with Kevin. All the ones I saw, were black -- steam or diesel. I was going through some old slide boxes last evening and found some slides of a wreck NYC crane cleaning up a derailment in or near Kalamazoo about 1967 or 1968. I will try to get some scanned and posted over the weekend. Basically a black crane but I had forgotten some safety stripes painted on the back of the the cab.

Are you talking about a relief (wreck) crane or a MOW crane such as a Burro?

To be more specific, an American 25-ton locomotive crane.

Anyone have a NYC crane roster?

Depending on the era and use it would have been most likely black for a crane although the tool and camp cars were usually some other color. NYC merged into PC in 1968 so it missed the era of high-visibility non-Burro cranes.
