The Brooklyn Roundhouse in Portland is the last SP Roundhouse still in use. California's Bayshore is a shell in a wasteland, and Lenzen is completely deconstructed awaiting its fate. Three SP Roundhouses "remain" from the entire system of the Southern Pacific Company. Now reflect on the fact that there's more than 20 SP steam locomotives still around, and that includes a Daylight, Cab Forward, an Antlantic, a three cylinder 4-10-2, and many others. The ORHF is still actively accepting donations in its quest to preserve the Brooklyn Roundhouse. Smokebox "orhf dot org" |

Post subject: | 66 SP steam, Lufkin |
Actually, my listings show 66 extant SP steam locomotives (including CP predecessors), including three narrow gauge ten wheelers and a 4-6-0 in Mexico. There are said to be an additional 4-4-0 under water in California and another 4-4-0 lost off a bridge in the mud in Mexico. Also, does anyone know the fate of the concrete shell at Lufkin, Texas (about five stalls)? It still stood a few years ago, apparently in decent condition though devoid of windows, etc.. > The Brooklyn Roundhouse in Portland is the > last SP Roundhouse still in use. > California's Bayshore is a shell in a > wasteland, and Lenzen is completely > deconstructed awaiting its fate.
