Fake rivets: another question...

Greetings:
I have looked through the prior posts regarding fake rivets.
Perhaps I missed something in one of the posts, however I recall seeing "somewhere", mention of a company that sold actual rivets that had been threaded for attachment.
Have I mis-remembered or just imagined such a company?

I think you are looking for huck bolts; a fastener that looks like a rivet, but is much easier to apply

Note that the kind of fastener depends on whether you can reach the other side or not.

I've seen three broad categories:

1) "Heads" with a stem that spot-welds to the substrate, sometimes needing to be 'caulked around' to be sealed (usually grinding of a stem on the dome is needed);

2) "Bolts" with an extended drive head on a stem, the head snapping off when torqued down, and the head then ground to final profile;

3) "Bolts' of the type Jos provided, which self-lock against turning but have to be tightened from the other side of the plate (and then seal-welded or overcoated for corrosion protection once snugged down).

I think the spotwelded type was by far the cheapest alternative mentioned in the threads discussing alternatives.

(There is also the broad family of applique "rivets" that would be made up in some durable material, for example gang-cast in RTV molds using a loaded epoxy, then installed with some kind of industrial adhesive, not necessarily on a clean metal surface, but I get the impression serious preservationists don't like that approach.)

It's heartbreaking, but at least he's still railroading, not stuck in a big ugly building full of computers like me........ hell, I'd do dismals to get back into the business if I had the chance.
