A few friends of mine sent me a photo of CP 2816 under steam in Calgary. Not sure if this is true or not, however it did snow in that region last night. I’ve also heard that 2860 is in the shop. Can anyone give a definitive confirmation to whether this is true?

I just checked its facebook page and there is nothing mentioned about a recent steam-up, if CP is doing it we might not hear right away but my guess is no. https://www.facebook.com/groups/739764486774612 |

It is true. The CP's management has sufficiently recovered from its years of abuse under HH to begin to again start thinking about PR. Keep an eye out for future CP announcements. Great to see this fine machine back under steam. Thank you CP. Ross Rowland |

I highly doubt it. The boiler ticket expired quite a while ago. They'd have to strip her right down before the authorities would allow that. |

I have had rumors several times earlier this year regarding future plans with the #2816. Many of them started when the #2816 was taken out of the shops last year (not under steam). Most said there was plans for returning it to steam while others said it was not true. There is a few people who look after the locomotive and expressed high hopes that it would be returning to steam. I know that was a popular locomotive with the railroad and community especially during the holiday trains where they would do food drives. If you have never seen that locomotive in person, it is a very beautiful and elegant locomotive. It was also one of the most expensive restorations at the time. Last I heard it was at the Ogden shops in Calgary. |

She is running. There’s a video of her floating around, running around a yard. |

Not being familiar with Canadian boiler regs, could she have been recertified in Canada but not able to run in the US? If they did manage to re certify her to current regs this would be one of the quietest overhauls in memory. |

This is extremely good news! Very anxious to hear what the future plans are for this locomotive. It's likely they are gearing up for the holiday train but who knows. Unfortunately I believe the border is still closed. |

Unfortunately I believe the border is still closed. There is no Holiday Train this year because of... you guessed it... Covid. I highly doubt there are any immediate plans for 2816 or the same reason. It would attract hundred of people to the same locations. I bet it was just out stretching its legs to keep things from seizing up. |
