The old Yakima NP turntable was lifted from the pit and placed on a flatcar today. It has been donated to the Northern Pacific Railway Museum in Toppenish. The 115' turntable will be moved to Toppenish as soon as all components can be loaded and secured. It will be moved on a total of 5 flatcars with the bridge on the center of 3 cars and the other two acting as idler cars. Components such as the circle rail, tower and ties will go on the other cars. Many thanks to the BNSF for the donation. Details and photos will be placed on the NPRY Museum website over the next several weeks. Message will be posted when the turntable page is published. The Yakima NP roundhouse was removed sometime in the 1960's. There is no sign of it now. The UP roundhouse was located about 100 yards from the NP roundhouse and one can still see the concrete foundation of it. I have been told the UP turntable from Yakima is in use at the California State Railroad Museum. When the NP turntable pit is filled in there will be little visible remains of the two roundhouses and two turntables that once formed a very active yard. Fortunately the two turntables will have survived. Doug Shearer > Thanks for the update of the TT. Post subject: | Oops! Pasco? Pit costs? |
Sorry about that! I confused Pasco and Yakima. I never did see the turntable in Yakima when I was there on the 4449 trips. Have you been able to come up with a cost estimate on the new pit for the turntable? Thanks, Smokebox "orhf dot org" |

Perhaps the MTM people can tell us what they paid for their pit? David Farlow Whitewater Valley RR Hudson.Industries@worldnet.att.net |
