Well, it is too late in the year to start anything new.
I moved back in June, and am still finding stuff. Thought it would be nice to share a few pics of artifacts.
The bearing and journal cover were found at a wreck site near here on the former Great Western, then Grand Trunk main line.
The other items were given to me by a cousin, now departed, who's father and grandfather worked for the Great Western, Grand Trunk, and Canadian National railways.
I hope it shows up, but the shovel is lettered for the GWR. It is genuine stamping, because I found the remains of another shovel along the right away of way with identical lettering. I also have a spike bar with identical GWR lettering.
Somewhere, there are copies of GWR cord wood contracts. These were contracts made with local farmers to supply cord wood at designated points for use in the locomotives. When I find them, I'll post them. Also have an original GWR general rule book from the late 1850s or early 1860s. It is quite interesting with the ancient rules and signalling.
