Remaining CF7's?

So who is still running them or has any languishing on the deadline?

Enquiring minds want to know. I also know a group that is interested in acquiring one to operate.

West Michigan Railroad has one stored.

Used to be one in SF colors at a mine in WV. Not sure if its still there however.

York Railway (G&W) had a few, however 2 were cut up back in february. One remains and is (i believe) still in active service.

Santa Cruz Big Trees and Pacific Railway has four, all ex-Santa Fe. 2600 and 2641 are in Felton, CA and used regularly. The two acquired (numbers unknown) within the last couple of years are in Watsonville and will remain there until the line between Watsonville and Santa Cruz has been repaired.

The Kentucky Railway Museum has one still in ATSF colors.

The Florida Central Railroad has a few still going.

The Pioneer Valley Railroad has had up to 4 in the past. I don't know what they currently have though.

There might be one stored out of service at the Grafton & Upton Railroad in Massachusetts. To the best of my knowledge, it has not run in several years, and the most recent photo I can find of it is from 2019 showing it in a storage line with the railroad’s F7A.

Also, the Maryland & Delaware Railroad on the Delmarva Peninsula has one that might still be occasionally operated.

The Museum of the American Railroad in Frisco, TX, has two, #s 2428 and 2447. Both will be at least cosmetically restored in a timeline that is currently unknown (aside from AFTER the new museum facilities are completed), but at the moment they're in pretty rough shape.

Last I knew Maryland & Delaware still had the unit at Selbyville, DE stored (tightly) in their enginehouse there for switching the customer there. It was in pretty good shape, a second derelict CF7 was on the property..

It looks like 2628 (round cab) is still running, 2632 was hauled out for scrap on its own wheels in 2019. Not sure what happened to the 2630, I've only ever seen the 2628 running.

The fleet that the Allegheny Railroad had (4 units, two operational at the end) were dispatched to the Louisiana & Delta (G&W) and cut up for scrap a couple years ago.

There was apparently one attempt by ATSF to put 645 power assemblies in the BC block and it didn't go well; that's what's sealed these.

The MNTX one that was at Colebrookdale (2627/454) went to the Minnesota Transportation Museum as a parts source for an F-unit restoration last year.

The one consistent factor about CF7's seems to be that whatever they did for paint at Cleburne, it has not really held up well. If a second owner took the time to really repaint one properly, they've held up, but if not....wow, some of the worst carbody conditions you'll ever see on a hood unit.

York Railway (G&W) CF7 #1500 was still operating, at least as of 2/24 when it was spotted in Hanover, PA.

Florida Railroad Museum's 204 has video on YouTube from 2020... that was 2472 and was quite the restoration/repair job back from the grave.

There is a CF7 being operated by Rail Switching Services at Garfield, Utah for the Rio Tinto Kennecott Smelter there; part of the fleet they brought in when they replaced Omaha Track as the switching provider at the site.

I don't know about head counts but, generally speaking, shouldn't these be in better condition than the random GP7? Weren't they fully rebuilt as part of the conversion?

That was a long time ago. The base units are approx. 70 years old.
