Hello Everyone, ....

Back on March 25th, 2021, Liberty Historic Railway Vice-chairman, and #288 Project manager, Mr. J.r. May gave a presentation to the Hopewell Valley Historical Society here in NJ regarding everyone's favorite trolley! (Well, it's everyone's favorite if you're from the Trenton NJ area.)

Mr. May spoke to a group of over 100 people about this amazing "Ahead of the torch" save, the current status of the project, and what the future holds for this unique streetcar.

The Hopewell Valley Historical Society, along with the Mercer County Library System, have graciously shared the video presentation on line. So if anyone is interested in seeing J.r.'s presentation, feel free to check out the link below and see for yourself why everyone is so excited about this project! ....

ADMIV - Thanks for the update. Somehow I missed this the first time around so I finally just got to watching the video today. It was a pleasure to watch JR, a person with a track record of success in business and rail preservation, go through his practical step-by-step approach in restoring/rebuilding this artifact. Great news that 288 is now moving to an indoor space where it can be worked on.

Hello everyone,

Thank you ADMIV for sharing the post!

Liberty Historic Railway, Inc (LHRy.org) entered into a lease for a portion of a secure siding in Farmingdale, NJ as the first step in the effort to restore one of only two known surviving trolleys from the once extensive streetcar system in Trenton, NJ. #288 is believed to be the only surviving streetcar which hauled passenger. (The other surviving piece of equipment is a former MOW / sweeper.)

For those of you who are on Facebook, you can follow this project on the #288 Facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/TrentonTrolley/

A mix of paid contractors and volunteers is envisioned. If you live in, or are close enough to, the Farmingdale, NJ area and would like to help out on the project, feel free to reach out to LHRy directly.

While LHRy is currently funding this project itself, donations towards this project are always welcomed. See the LHRy website for details.

https://www.lhry.org/donate

Stay tuned for more surprises in the coming months. That's all for now folks...

G’day folks,

I’m a bit late to the party, but thought I’d chime in. I’m an Aussie traction collector, mainy tickets, transfers, passes, and the like. Over the years, I’ve managed to find a fair few interesting items, especially around 2005-2007 when eBay was new, traction collecting didn’t appear too popular, and prices were cheap.

Along the way, I picked up these unused Trenton & Mercer County Traction Corporation transfers. I’m guessing that a fan may have grabbed a bundle when the streetcars stopped running around 1934, I think. If these are of interest then I’d be happy to send all but one of each, as I’m not fussed about having duplicates and it’d be nice for them to be back where they came from, 90 years ago. Please let me know and I’ll bundle them up to post.

Cheers,
Matt

I feel for them. We've gone thru almost the same thing restoring 390 in Hampton,Va. 390 also was used for housing. Like 288, 390 is the only surviving car from the Hampton Roads area. Luckily BSM saved it for 40 years before Hampton got it. But 288 is going to need much much more work. Restoring wooden cars and finding parts that are missing isn't easy. (finding parts for 390 has been my job along with other things). Restoring 288 will depend on how far they want to go and money. Parts are out there but aren't easy (or cheap) to find. Many parts will have to be reproduced. For anyone who wants to see what we've done look on Facebook for the 390 project.
