Photo of the abandoned remains of a Baldwin narrow gauge 2-6-0 at Yoho, British Columbia. Used by a contractor building the CP Kicking Horse Pass line. Abandoned since 1909.

I took these photos a little over a month ago while on vacation in B.C.

The position this locomotive is in looks remarkably similiar to that of the Napoleon Cypress (ex-Manhattan El) forney abandoned on the shore of Lake Verrett in southern Louisiana. (The picture below was taken by Dick Gibbens in the mid-1990s.)

Judging by the depth to which their steam domes have sunken, I think they were both stripped for scrap metal a long time ago; either shortly after abandonment or (like other "lost locomotives" that have since come to light) during the scrap metal drive of WWII.

The frames, wheels, fittings, etc. may have been hauled out, leaving the heavier boiler behind to rot.

Rob, I would like to use the top photograph in a future update to "Surviving World Steam Locomotives". If I can do so, please let me know off-line; you don't provide an e-mail address, or I would have asked you off-line.
