Aloha, and hello.

Figured 99.99% of the population here hasn't been afforded the opportunity to ride the cab from Skagway to White Pass, so thought I'd share an opportunity I was afforded with my camera on the 73 six years ago. I'll post the rest of the climb, the interesting parts of the return trip, and some more scenes when I have time. Hope you enjoy. It's a shame we haven't been able to run trains off the docks for two years now. Hopefully 2022 will be different.

I fired the 73 with my right hand while I took movies with my left hand once in '89 from the dock to the shops where we cut off and let the Diesels continue on . The firemen had been grabbed to run one of the diesel trains which left 73 without a fireman but since I was talking to the engineer at the time I mentioned I could fire oil and he said okay let's go and he never looked at me for the whole trip. He worked her fairly hard but the firing was easy and on top of that I produced, for a about 8 seconds, a big plume of smoke for my camera otherwise it was a clear stack and very easy to keep the pressure steady at the Mark ,though I did pop off a few seconds after the smokey bit . I got my experience from the years of running and firing the Tuskegee 101 at the Illinois Railroad Museum .

That's a great sounding little engine, especially from the trackside views. Made my teeth itch watching that wishing I was running. Lawd I miss doing that.
