The attached photo ( small in size , 2" x3") is offered in a 600 DPI scan. Anyone know where this city and junction is, and the RR line? Any help will be appreciated as I have no clue at all.

Thanks,

Harry Nicholls
Dallas, TX

I don't know, Harry. But, that depot? behind the smoke plume looks pretty distinctive.

I also notice that the two sheds on the left have a two tone paint scheme that might be particular to a railroad.

The engine itself looks very much like a Boston & Maine K class 2-8-0, perhaps a K-8? You can vaguely make out a roadnumber on the tender which looks very similar to the font B&M used on their steam locomotives.

The images I've attached (K-8-d and K-8-a, respectively) come from this source: https://sites.google.com/site/bostonandmainerailroad/

Hi
My guess is the Boston & Maine RR, note the Ball signals to the left of the locomotive, and the track in the foreground looks like it is leading to a railroad diamond.
The numbers on the tender is either # 27?? or 37??
Also, the B&M did use a two-color paint scheme on their building.

Thanks to all who responded. I knew the ball signal may clue in the northeast area and am glad to know it is Nashua Union Station, Nashua, New Hampshire (I do note the full answer came from the UK. Greatly appreciated.)

Now, I can label the photo and file it in the correct folder at DeGolyer.
