Hi everyone, somewhat recently I came across a Google Doc that listed survivors for different Class 1 railroads across the United States including the Grand Trunk Western some of the basic stuff appears like GTW NW2 7914 at Boone Scenic and GTW 1951 the last RS-1 preserved from the Grand Trunk Western and I believe the last RS1 ever built but some other interesting stuff is on the list such as GTW 8197 at the Railway Museum of Greater Cleveland which is presumed to possibly be scrapped. Does anyone know if this is true? and does anyone know if any other GTW S-4's or GTW Alco's are still out there? last photo I'd ever seen of the RELCO Unit in Cleveland looked to be in pretty rough shape and while researching I found that the GTW had sold a bunch of equipment to RELCO in the 1970's around the time they began disposing of their older steam era equipment this was not limited to one but several Alco units the GTW used to own and some of the first delivered to one of America's last steam operating Class 1. After a bit more digging I found another S-4 that had managed to live into the late 2000's until it was apparently scrapped GTW 8083 (RLCX 1052) which leads me to believe if they have come this far that possibly there are 1 or 2 left? every once in a while there will be a locomotive that goes up for sale usually an SW1200 or some sort that was former GTW that was thought to be lost or scrapped that gets added to the list of survivors. any help finding what left of GTW 8197 or any other GTW Alco for that matter that may not be preserved would be greatly appreciated. You are missing the Alco S4 on the Corydon Railroad that was repowered with a Caterpillar engine. It was one of four done by the GTW and the only one remaining. |

Thank you for letting me know another one to add onto the list of GTW Steam Era Survivors I never knew a CS-9 escaped the Battle Creek scrappers torch. Railpictures lists this locomotive as an S4M does this mean the locomotive has been re-motored twice now? |

I am fairly certain 8197 has been scrapped. It is not visible in 2020 Google Maps imagery; and when you look in the archived imagery it disappears after 2010. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Laton ... 84.5096621 The museum is not very well documented in terms of roster photos on the internet. It's on my list to document after COVID. |

If I recall correctly, Relco is not the Relco you may have known, it was purchased by Wabtec. |
