An official announcement on Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum's website today of Saratoga & North Creek BL2's numbers 52 and 56 coming to HVRM in North Judson, Indiana. The two units were originally built for the Bangor & Aroostook. Les |

It's interesting: there are quite a few more BL2's preserved than E7's. Phil Mulligan |

And there are two Plymouth Model BL-2 loco's in existence that have been operated in the last decade or so. One is in Rochester NY at a railroad museum and another is in Arizona (or Utah ?) that was stored inside a closed down mine... So, two EMD Model BL2's and two "operational" Plymouth Model BL-2's versus only one inoperable EMD E7... Sounds like the Battle of the BL's versus the remaining E7. But, I bet that E7 put a lot more miles behind it than those other loco's. And the EMD model BL2 was one of the very few early Diesel loco's that the NYCRR did not purchase, they bought a few (or lots) of every thing else; RS-1, RS-2, RS-3, "Erie Built" C-Liners, FM's, SW's, NW's, Baldwins, Baldwin Centipedes, Lima Hamilton's, E7's, E8's, FT's, FA's, PA's, GP's.... The NYCRR had at least a couple examples of all of the early Diesels... Caused lots of headaches maintaining every thing that needed different manufacturer parts. Cheers Kevin |

Congratulations AGAIN, Les. Those ought to attract some visitors, I would imagine. And, have a nice summer. |

That's another reason for me to revisit the Hoosier Valley again at some point... Was hoping to ride behind one of them at the S&NC a few years back (Sept 2013), but that was when they decided to cut their train frequency back and we ended up with their GE B39 on our service. |

Hmm... This gets me thinking, what became of the rest of the historic SNC fleet? Specifically the also S-units. |

ALCO 5 and D&H (SIRT) 821 were both sold to Raven Rail LLC in Shushan, NY. 821 is now renumbered to #3021 and was fired up this month, with #5 next to be returned to service. https://www.facebook.com/ravenrailllc/ https://www.facebook.com/Alco5Locomotive/ Raven Rail is currently storing the SNC E8s, as well as the BL-2s prior to this purchase. |

Can't help but feel a slight sadness that one of the last ALCOs in MTA service isn't closer to home... but her earning revenue and regularly operating definitely makes up for it! Glad to see this stock has a nice home. |

The two BL2's have now arrived at the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum! The first photo shows Chesapeake & Indiana diesel #5115 just after crossing Arlington Street leading the two BL2's and the CKIN's caboose into North Judson. The second shot shows the two EMD's parked on CKIN trackage across from the museums depot. Les

I tied the road power on them at Walbridge for the trip west. Had to hustle to do it, otherwise they'd have lost another day of transit. |

Oh please, return them to classic Bangor & Aroostook paint schemes! Please? |
