HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Kentucky Steam Heritage Corp. has acquired a rare General Electric C30-7 locomotive from the Collis P. Huntington Railroad Historical Society. The six-axle GE, formerly Louisville & Nashville 7067, is the third diesel acquired by the Kentucky non-profit that is currently restoring Chesapeake & Ohio 2-8-4 2716.

“This is an exciting and unique addition to our collection,” said Chris Campbell, Kentucky Steam founder and president. “Locomotive 7067 represents a quickly-vanishing era in railroading that is in many ways being forgotten, and this locomotive has historical relevance to our region as it and many others like it were once based at our facility in Estill County, Kentucky.”

The locomotive was built in 1980 as one of 44 C30-7s owned by the L&N. The locomotive later ended up on the CSX roster. In 1999, the Huntington Locomotive Shop painted the locomotive in Marshall University colors and it was used in the Huntington area for university functions. In 2017, it was given to the C.P. Huntington group. Recently, the group was looking to thin its fleet of equipment and decided to donate the GE to Kentucky Steam, which plans on moving it to its facility in eastern Kentucky. The locomotive will be restored to its L&N “Family Lines” appearance and be put on static display.

More at the link. The unit reportedly lacks traction motors.

Excellent news. The fact that it will get the Family Lines treatment (in due time, of course) is icing on the cake!

Fantastic! I was always afraid that the Dash 7s were going to go the way of the E7.

Aren't there a few Ex L&N ALCOs out there, maybe something like a Rs3, S2, then a FA?

They almost have....only one surviving E7 left....and this is the only preserved C30-7. although there are still other survivors so the opportunity exists to save one or two more. There are 4 axle Dash 7s preserved.
