I'm trying to help a friend ID a railroad marked on a lantern (Porter brass top). It may be about 150 years old. PS&CNY? I'm wondering if it might not even be a proper railroad, perhaps a trolley or municipality? Sorry, no photos.

Thanks for any help!

Best,

Joshua

A photo of the embossing would help. The only thing close I can find whether steam or interurban was Pittsburg, Summerville & Clarion, a forerunner of Lake, Franklin & Clarion. But there ain’t no “NY” in it.

I found a line called the Erie and Central New York Railroad, later part of the DL&W RR, but no PS. Is it possible that what you think is a PS is actually an E? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erie_and_ ... k_Railroad

Hi Joshua

I looked in my reprint of the official railroad guide for June 1893 and also came up with nothing. I tried internet searches and found nothing, would it be possible for you to take a photo of the railroad lantern.
One photo showing the top, with the lettering, that you are looking for, and also the lantern itself.
A photo will be a great help, this is just a suggestion, Pat.
