Post subject:  Denver 04 ready to head to Arvada

After 22 months Denver 04 built by Woeber in 1911 is finished and ready to head to Arvada from the silo in Cheyenne. 04 was the last Denver trolley in public operation on the night of July 2nd 1950, the system closing after its last run. Its been a long road for 04 having been a mountain cabin and then a exhibit at the Forney museum then purchased, before being demolished by Wally Weart, it then spent many years in a storage yard before coming onto the list of Colorado's 10 most endangered places and receiving grant funding for a static restoration. It will go into a park on Grandview next to Wadsworth with a pergoda style roof over it. All original Denver interior seats were found in storage in a barn in Colorado, you just never know whats out there !

I love how they are numbered with a decimal.

That's so they know which gauge of the system's track to run it on when it reaches the end of a dual gauge section. Decimal points are for narrow gauge cars, standard gauge Denver trolleys have whole numbers.

That is one great restoration, which almost seemed to be, just one set ahead of being torched.

Where did you find the trucks?

Are they original to that type of car?

Thank you for explaining the numbering system.

Michael had a question about the trucks come up on his Facebook page where he has been documenting the progress on .04

"its on caboose trucks, trolley trucks a are incredibly rare."

Its sitting on CBQ caboose trucks which is what it has had since the Forney days, we however modified the trucks to lower the body and make it look less obviously high.
It will be in Cheyenne for several more months whilst the park is planned out in Arvada. any are welcome to visit the trolley in Cheyenne for a tour round.

Beautiful car.

Denver trolley gauge was 3' 6". That makes it 6" wider than one of the railroad gauges used in Denver!

And 3' 6" gauge trolley trucks are even more extremely rare. What did it have when it ran in regular service?

That is really neat! I always wondered where those trolleys ended up from the old Forney museum.

Refence the Denver Tramways book, the .04 had a pair of Brill 27G trucks (4-foot wheelbase) and with such a short wheelbase, it appears the motors were outside hung.

When asked, the head of the crew that restored the Collings Foundation's WW2 B-24J Liberator bomber said "we replaced everything but the shadow," but in this case, I think they went much further than that.
Such an amazing job!
