Hearty thanks to the UP RR for their willingness to invest in proudly displaying their heritage and sharing with the communities they serve. Best of success with her travels. Ross Rowland |

I'm glad they're taking to the road, but crushed that they're not coming to the Pac NW like they were going to before the pandemic hit. I was so hoping to see 4014 rolling into Portland... |

The rumor I heard was that they are going to do two tours this year. They have only announced an outline of the first one so far. If you haven't already done so, please join the UP Steam Club... and don't give up. |

They may not be going where you want them to go. but should anyone really be complaining about the only C1 railroad currently operating a fairly large steam program with a big boy no less?? At least they haven't taken the BNSF, CSX, NS approach to steam.... |

Who's complaining that they are running 4014 again? This isn't a case of, "I just wanna see them go past my house," as they were already going to come to Portland (I assume as they said Pac NW) in 2019, so it'd be reasonable to assume they might pick up where they left off once they took to the road again. That I'm disappointed they're not saying they're coming out here is quite understandable, I think, as they said they were coming, before the pandemic. As for the Steam Club, I get their emails but don't 'do' Facebook so I can't see all the other stuff they do on FB. |

Facebook isn't getting anything the emails don't get---minus a bunch of people from general public moreso than railfans specifically asking random questions that probably most of the people on this forum already know. It's not like you miss any exclusives. I wouldn't be surprised if with the post-covid restrictions in California that haven't been totally lifted yet that they decided to go somewhere else first and deal with the west coast when things get a little easier. Traffic patterns on the railroad could have some effect as well. |

In a recent UP Shop video, they were restoring 4014's tender. It would seem that this might be the first run with 4014's tender vs. 3985's. I doubt anyone would notice any difference other than knowing it beforehand. I was surprised they would try and use 14's tender at all since 3985 isn't planning to be moved elsewhere (that we know about). |

I think they were doing some truck work and brake work on 3985's tender last year. It'd be nice if they did work on 4014's tender but it's much cheaper and easier to use 3985's tender for the foreseeable future. |

Here's the UP Shop Tour link that Ed put together last September: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tw50srOCai0 In re-watching it, Ed mentions the work being done to 4014's tender but he probably meant 3985's tender behind 4014. Since it was getting running gear work, I probably assumed this was 4014's own tender in my prior post. |
