It appears that the long decaying MoPac 2522, located in Paris, Arkansas, is finally getting some much needed work by its new caretakers, the Paris-Logan County Coal Miners Museum. One of only two surviving full MoPac steamers left.

I didn’t know until recently that the locomotive was moved from its longtime place in Paris’ city park in January of 2020. Given how long the locomotive has been neglected, I’m surprised that it’s not in worse shape. Price tag for restoring and storing the locomotive undercover also looks to be reasonable. Only difficulty is that I can’t find a donation link.

Another one of those longtime basket case or forlorn locomotives finding new support.

While this is definitely good news, the quoted cost for restoration seems very much too good to be true.

Sammy, how often have we seen a paint job called a "restoration?" At lease shelter is being included.....

Described in the story as "building an awning" for protection. That sounds a little bit flimsy to me. Let's hope that a genuine shelter is what is being constructed for the Ten-Wheeler.

I'm with you guys --- Let's hope for the best. A covering is an excellent place to start.

I know that the 2522 did have a covering for a while. Maybe that covering was disassembled and will be reused on the new site.

It was in a city park for a while, and it did have a awning covering it. It's been a while since I seen it, but I think it was in decent shape.

If you ignore the A, a paint job isn't too bad. Slap some duct tape over the ugly holes and roll some paint on. That's more love then 50% of the park steamers are getting right now...
